Cast favourite Canadian-American actor Matt Perry who played sarcastic jokester Chandler Bing died in his hot tub at his Los Angeles home on Saturday 28 October, 2023 and was found unresponsive by his personal assistant. The Coroner has not yet released the body and is waiting on toxicology tests.

Fans were disturbed by his last Instagram post, from his hot tub, which may have been a cry for help.

Central Perk owner Cameron Thomas, told The Bugle a number of patrons during the week had expressed shock, and even grief, at the sudden passing of Matthew Perry. He admitted that he was not that much of a fan of the show when he registered the name, and was surprised the name was available in Australia in every state.

In a statement to People magazine the cast said "We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family," their statement reads. "There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss."

"In time we will say more, as and when we are able," the statement continues. "For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world."

The message is then signed by Aniston, Cox, Kudrow, LeBlanc and Schwimmer.

 He was 54.
