Letter to the Editor: Festival cancellations all too common

One wonders just how many more cancellations will be announced.

The way we are going there'll be nothing left to cancel.

It was sad to hear of Becky Guggisberg's frustration in trying to pull together the Jazz & Blues Festival.

The lack of venues is a major challenge for our town.

A few years ago, a visionary plan was announced for a multi-purpose arts/performing precinct to be incorporated into and around the old Fire Station exhibition building.

An old home was cleared nearby and the ambulance station moved to free up space for the planned area.

That was well over five years ago.

Since then absolutely nothing has happened.

Meanwhile, Kiama wins an award, it seems, each year for the best holiday town.

However, we now get a drip feed of cancellations of events that have made us who we are.

First was a "no fireworks" New Year's Eve, then the Changing Tides pop festival backs out for 2025.

Now it's no Jazz festival for 2026.

What's going on Kiama?

It seems that the town had more life during the Covid pandemic.
